Why your business should go global!

Dr Irena Yashin-Shaw PHD - Friday, September 13, 2013

There are some compelling reasons why your businesses should be thinking global if you are not already! Recent European Commission research found that:

  • Companies that trade internationally generally produce better financial results than those focused on domestic markets.
  • Internationally active SMEs "create more jobs, growing an average 7 per cent per annum compared to just 1 per cent for SMEs without any international activities"
  • SMEs with a global strategy "are more innovative, with 26 per cent of internationally active SMEs introducing new products and services compared to just 8 per cent of domestically focused businesses."

53 per cent of Australian firms are looking to expand overseas. Businesses that are not embracing the bigger picture are going to get left behind very quickly. The result? A limited lifespan.

Even the smallest of businesses can have a global presence.

  • A small local picture framer sells eBooks and tutorials around the world on how to DIY picture framing
  • A local automotive repairer runs weekend retreats for 4 wheel drive vehicles to which people come from far and wide
  • A local consultant offers business coaching to Asian clients

So how are you tapping into the global market place? I’d love to hear about it.
